Florida Marijuana - Unusual Intake Methods
Rectal and topical external administration of cannabis are not common.
Rectal Intake
Limited research suggests that rectal administration is more bioavailable. There is greater absorption and decreased first-pass metabolism associated with rectal administration. Florida dispensaries do have medical marijuana suppositories. This intake method may be especially beneficial to patients suffering from colon cancer.
Topical Intake
Cannabis and cannabinoids are hydrophobic and do not penetrate the skin easily. Few studies on the absorption of cannabis containing substances have been conducted. The permeability of CBD and CBN were found to be approximately ten times greater than the permeability of THC.
